The strawberry crab, Hawaiian strawberry crab or red boxing crab, Neoliomera pubescens, is a small, bright pink crab found in the Indo-Pacific region, including around Hawaii , French Polynesia and Mauritius . It has small white bumps on the main shell and whitish claws. Adults reach about 5 cm (2 in) across.
Because of its small size and peaceful disposition, this animal is considered reef safe, i.e. generally safe for reef aquaria. However, because of its especially shy nature and small size, from the aquarist's standpoint, the strawberry crab is not suited to large reef aquaria because of its tendency to simply disappear in larger tanks and never be seen again. In captivity it needs to be provided with a decent amount of micro algae which is the moss-like algae that grows on live rock.

Strawberry Crabs thrive in invertebrate-friendly saltwater aquariums with live rock. They are peaceful, personable, and will generally get along with other invertebrates or fish. Plus, as omnivores, they not only control unwanted algae growth, but will also feed upon uneaten food. If you're looking for a fun, interesting addition to a new or existing cleaning crew, the Strawberry Crab is an ideal choice. If insufficient algae are present, the diet should be supplemented with both herbivorous and meaty foods. Strawberry Crabs can obtain a size of 2 inches in the home aquarium. They are bright pink with whites spots. |

Besides algae, the strawberry crab needs to be fed with sea weed that has been dried. Crush it and add it into the water. Or you can leave it in its sizeable chunks so they don’t scatter everywhere in the aquarium. Also feed it with sizeable chunks of meat along with the sea weed. It needs protein to keep in good health. Maintain a healthy diet inclusive of the foodstuffs mentioned above for him. It also has a tendency of eating food that has been left uneaten by other fish. |

The specially designed crab helps it to capture algae from in between the rocks and protect itself. It also helps them gather food from the floor space of the aquarium. Experts say that these creatures are reef safe.
